How You Can Help
Helmets can be purchased on Isla Mujeres, at several different stores. We like to suggest that people shop at a small hardware store owned by a local family. We feel that not only are we helping the children, but we are also giving business to a local family as well. Helmets are also available at either moto dealership. If you'd prefer to donate money in lieu of a helmet, cash donations are accepted at the front desk of Marina Paraiso, or online through PayPal (see our "Donate" tab above). There are also a lot of people who have personally handed out helmets to children that they know, or even to children they just see out in about, which we think is awesome! We do ask that anyone who does hand out helmets on their own let us know so we can add that into the number of helmets donated.
For anyone who would like to purchase helmets and bring them from the U.S. or Canada, please keep in mind the helmets are for motorcycle/moped use, while bicycle helmets are great for bicycles, they would offer little protection in the event of a motorcycle accident.
Directions to the Hardware Store
The store can be found just off the main perimeter road, Av Rueda Medina. It's past Chedraui, and just before the orange Navy housing buildings. Just take a left on the street right before the housing and the store is down the street just a bit, on your left (picture below) They have the helmets all lined up outside so no need to worry about a language barrier, just point to what you'd like!
